    @Blue Stinger:

I didn’t do a lot of research myself, I based this on comments of an Nvidia Support representative here:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/shield-tv/9/346685/wrong-colours-in-dolby-vision/2858940/

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/shield-tv/9/386562/netflix-dolby-vision-switches-to-8bit-rgb/2767498/?topicPage=3

“The 8bit RGB part is intended behavior. The DV signal is packed into an 8bit RGB stream so it can be sent through HDMI to be unpacked by the TV. It’s called RGB tunneling, and it’s the preferred way to send a DV signal if the TV supports it.”

Indeed this is about tunneling. I just wanted to clarify that if you play a DV stream on the Nvidia Shield 2019 and you call up the TV’s info screen, it will show “BT.709” and “Dolby Vision” and not “BT.2020”.

I’m aware. But there are also devices that work with Dolby Vision with BT.2020.

You can try another HDMI Cabel.

I bought a new one (60USD), certified hdmi 8k earc DV cable. Same issue.

    OK Shit. :-(

But the Shield can not support HDMI 2.1 standard.
    Maybe try a 2.0 cable.

Die Ratschläge bezüglich der HDMI Kabel sind völlig falsch. Wenn es ein extrem minderwertiges Kabel ist, können schon mal Probleme auftauchen. Wechsel das Kabel bloß nicht!

Mad-C: HDMI 2.0 and 2.1 have the same connectors. No difference.

I currently face 2 issues with my 935:
    – Remote: My understanding is that once paired, every output order of the remote should be BT. Mine keep being stuck on the IR operating mode (and I find it quite directive and lacking range), even after successfull Bluetooth pairing. Any ideas?
    – Image Dynamic: the image lacks “constrat” / “subtleness” / “color details”, basically near black performance is disappointing at the moment. To bring some facts to expose this, for instance on grey scale benchmarks, everything under 15% is pure black, everything above 75% is pure white. Literally 40% of the dynamic is lost… And I can’t find, so far, any combination of settings to solve this.

    Hi,

    @fneuf
Regarding the remote… BT is only used for Microphone…

@fneuf: What picture settings are you using?

For SDR calibration, I usually use the “Disney World of Wonders” calibration blu-ray. It has pretty good calibration procedures for brightness and contrast. Color settings are more of a personal taste. Personally I don’t like the “Movie” preset that is always said to be the best starting point, because it’s too warm and whites don’t really look white at all, but more yellowish.

Toengel@Alex : thanks for the info. Is the high directivity and low range of the IR connection something that you confirm on your side?

@Maurice : here are my latest SDR settings (I tried many combinations)
    – Picture Mode : Film
    – Colour : 42
    – OLED Contrast : 65
    – Sharpness : 0
    – Brightness : 36
    >> Advanced
    >>>> Color
    —— Colour enhancement : Off
    —— Colour Range : Normal
    —— Colour Temp : Warm
    >>>> Contrast
    —— Contrast Mode : Picture
—— Perfect Nat’ Reality : Off
    —— Perfect Contrast : Off
    —— Video Contrast : 68
    —— Light Sensor : Off
    —— Gamma : 0
    >>>> Definition
    —— Ultra Resolution : Off
    >>>> Picture cleaning
    —— Noise reduction : Off
—— MPEG artefact reduc : Off
    >>>> Motion
    —— Motion style : Film
As it is the image feels slightly under-exposed, but that’s the “best” I manage on my own to preserve details at both end of colour range.

As an overall note, I’m searching for a natural, subtle & precise image. I’m all for the “FilmMaker” initiative. Not a bling-bling, artificially flattering picture.

@fneuf The remote control’s IR is very weak and pointy for me too. And it already got scratched very heavily. Even some plastic chipped out. Never have I seen such cheap build quality before. I got this one: https://philips.to/3nWslGY
