Dear Philips,
it’s been a long time since I complained loudly. But it’s necessary (again). This time the buzzwords are: _correct_ aspect ratio, Philips TV Remote App, IP-EPG, SD broadcasts
Short introduction what _correct_ aspect ratio means. Means, that the original image content aspect ratio is _not_ changed when displaying it: content is _not_ stretched or compressed. So, why do your products still have issues to display content with a correct aspect ratio?
Let me give you two examples:
- Your Philips TV Remote App (Android version)… Did you ever used this ugly app in combination with your Wifi SmartScreen feature to display the TV broadcast on a tablet or smartphone? And not only with HD channels? Please, take a look at SD broadcasts! Why are you not able to display 16:9 SD content with the correct aspect ratio?
- Your IP-EPG… You know, that still 4:3 SD broadcasts exist? And you know, that the IP-EPG has a little small PIP window with the current broadcast? Did you ever take a look how content is displayed? I know, that 16:9 is working with the correct aspect ratio. But SD broadcasts with 4:3 aspect ratio are stretched to 16:9! Why cannot you fix that? The IP-EPG does have this problem since at least 5 years!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the GUI one of the most important connection/interface to your customers? If yes, why are you ignoring such issue for such a long time?
So please, invest 2 hours to fix that! It’s not rocket science!

Man muss sich mittlerweile wirklich Fragen was mit den Softwareentwickler bei Philips/TPvision passiert ist! Die größten Probleme sind meiner Meinung nach mit der Insolvenz von Trident gekommen. Seit 2011/2012 sind die Fehler nicht ausgemerzt worden und von Jahr zu Jahr von Software zu Android übernommen worden.
Jede Woche gibt es neue Probleme die schon ausreichend im Forum diskutiert worden sind. In der Regel sind diese aber nicht auf die sicherlich tolle Hardware zurück zu führen, sondern auf die Software Entwickler!
Dein angesprochenes Ratioproblem ist leider nur ein Bug von vielen… Mich Nerven momentan die regelmäßigen Reboots, Bootprobleme, fehlende Hevc Unterstützung, verlieren der BILD Settings am meisten!
Wie du aber schon geschrieben hast werden wir wohl erst auf die 2015 Geräte warten müssen, damit sich die Entwickler wieder auf die 2014 konzentrieren können! Da hat man dann ein 4000€ Gerät was 1 Jahr nicht annähernd fehlerfrei arbeitet und muss erleben das Philips die 2014 jetzt zu extrem reduzierten Preisen an dem man bringt um ihre Lager für die 2015 Geräte frei zu machen. Die 2015 kommen so wie es aussieht ja erst im Juli auf den Markt und werden dann wahrscheinlich nur noch 3/4 vertrieben weil im Sommer 2016 ja wieder ein Fußballevent ansteht!

Dem kann ich nur zustimmen.
Aufgrund der instabilen Firmware der 2014-Generation werden Philips-Geräte es in Zukunft schwer haben, weiterhin am Markt zu bestehen.
Und das Spiel wird sich mit den neuen 2015-Geräten wiederholen.
Verärgerte Kunden vergessen nicht !
Und vielleicht gibt es ja auch mal objektive Tests der grossen Elektronik-Zeitschriften,
die nicht nur die Hardware sondern auch die Software in ihre Ergebnisse einfliessen lassen.
Was nützt mir das beste Bild , die beste technische Ausstattung oder das schönste Design,
wenn sich ein Gerät unkontrolliert abschaltet, seine Bild-/Toneinstellungen vergisst und passives 3D Kopfschmerzen verursacht ?
Philips musst dringend in der Software-Abteilung aufräumen und fähige Mitarbeiter einstellen.
Aber wahrscheinlich zählt Umsatz und Gewinn mehr , als gesunder Menschenverstand.
Schade, wird wohl genauso enden wie bei z.B. bei Nokia, Grundig oder Loewe…..
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but:
(1) the amount of 4:3 broadcasts is diminishing, so they are more or less just a legacy of the “good ol’ times”. Looking at the percentages of 16:9 + 21:9 etc. broadcasts vs. 4:3 broadcasts available today… well, you get the idea, right? ;)
(2) the IP-EPG PIP is merely a preview of the current broadcast running in the background. Have you ever spent an entire evening in front of the PIP window, watching TV like this? No? I haven’t, either…

there don’t exist 21:9 broadcasts – it’s still a 16:9 signal… ;-) Sure, there are not much (4:3) and they won’t increase. But this is not the point. The point in the case of IP-EPG is, that they just ignore the AR… And the viewing time of the PIP not an argument to excuse the not correctly implemented display of the broadcast content (in terms of original aspect ratio)
However, the IP-EPG is only a secondary issue – but it still need to be fixed. The main point is the inability of displaying 16:9 SD content with WSS in correct aspect ratio.
