Philips TV 2024: Philips Smart TV bekommt endlich einen Namen: Titan OS

lange hat es gedauert und ich kann nun endlich auch ein paar Worte dazu schreiben: der Philips Saphi-Nachfolger, der bisher unter “Philips Smart TV” oder “verbessertes Smart TV” lief, hat einen Namen bekommen und wird wohl unter Philips Titan OS im nächsten Jahr das 2024er Philips TV Line-up mitbestimmen.
Aber zuerst ein kurzer Abriss, in welchen TV-Serien Philips mit dem linuxbasierten Saphi OS im Jahr 2018 startete und dann 2023 in das “verbesserte Smart TV” überging:
2018 – Saphi (SoCs: MT5800, MT5802)

2020 – Saphi (SoCs: MT9288, NT72671, MT5806)
2021 – Saphi (SoC: NT72671) => Titan OS (nicht gesichert, Umfang wenn dann eingeschränkt)
2022 – Saphi (SoC: NT72690) => Titan OS (nicht gesichert, Umfang wenn dann eingeschränkt)
2023 – verbessertes Smart TV / Philips Smart TV (SoCs: NT72690, NT72676) => Titan OS
Im Endeffekt hat sich das Saphi-basierte Betriebssystem seit 2018 immer weiterentwickelt. Dabei kamen neue Funktionen (bspw. Unterstützung für bestimmte Formate, Standards etc.) hinzu oder andere wurden entfernt. Und so kommt es ab einem gewissen Entwicklungsstand auch mal zu einem neuen Namen. Vor allem, wenn man sich bspw. ein wenig von Google lösen will (es gab bereits 2023 keine Mid-Range Android TVs auf T32 SoC-Basis mehr und Google ist sehr restriktiv, was individuelle Anpassungen angeht) und ggf. plant das Betriebssystem auch an andere Hersteller zu lizenzieren.
Wenn man sich jetzt noch die Pressemitteilung zur Unterstützung vom Streaming-Anbieter Joyn vom 2. November 2023 genauer anschaut, kann man rauslesen, dass Philips nicht nur die 2023er Philips TV mit “verbessertem Smart TV” (bzw. jetzt Titan OS) versorgt, sondern dass das “neue” Betriebssystem auch für 2022er und 2021er Saphi-TVs kommen wird. Da die 2022er genauso wie die 2023er Smart TVs mit dem NT72690 SoC (ausgenommen die MiniLEDs, die einen NT72676 SoC nutzen) ausgestattet sind, ist das Zurverfügungstellen von Titan OS auf 2022er TVs nur konsequent. Der Zusatz in der verlinkten Pressemitteilung, dass die 2021er mit dem “verbesserten Smart TV” nach einem OTA-Update auch Joyn-fähig werden, trotz eines anderen SoC (NT72671) scheint verwunderlich. Jedoch laufen beide Jahrgänge seit Anbeginn schon auf “demselben Firmware-Branch” TPN216E_216.x.x.x (2021) bzw. TPN216E_226.x.x.x (2022) und somit ist ein Update auf Titan OS durchaus denkbar.
Es bleibt spannend und wir sind auf die ersten offiziellen Informationen Ende Januar 2024 gespannt.
