Ab Januar 2013 ermöglicht upc cablecom ihren Kunden, die digitalen Zusatzfunktionen über HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) zu nutzen. Damit profitieren die TV-Kunden von attraktiven Hintergrundinformationen zu Sendungen und können Inhalte interaktiv via Internet nutzen.
Ab Januar 2013 führt upc cablecom erste HbbTV-Dienste ein. Voraussetzung dafür ist, dass Kunden im Besitz einer DigiCard sind oder das digitale Fernsehen ohne Set Top Box unverschlüsselt empfangen. Seit Mitte November können alle 1,5 Millionen aktiven Haushalte von diesem neuen digitalen Grundangebot ohne Mehrkosten profitieren.
Teletext der Zukunft
Der Grossteil aller Fernsehzuschauer nutzt heute Teletext, um Nachrichten, Wetterprognosen oder Sport während des Fernsehens abzurufen. Die Weiterentwicklung des Teletexts ist HbbTV – ein internationales und in Europa etabliertes TV-Standard-Protokoll. HbbTV ermöglicht interaktives Fernsehen, bietet mehr Informationen und mehr Bedienungsfunktionen als der bisherige Teletext. Jeder TV-Sender ist dabei für sein eigenes HbbTV-Signal verantwortlich. Um HbbTV zu empfangen, benötigen Fernsehzuschauer einen modernen und internetfähigen Fernseher. Die Bedienung ist einfach: Mittels farbiger Knöpfe, den Zahlen- und Pfeiltasten auf der Fernbedienung kann in den HbbTV-Menüs der einzelnen Kanäle navigiert werden.
Interaktives Fernsehen
Ein Beispiel für HbbTV: Ein Fernsehzuschauer schaut einen Dokumentarfilm über Frankreich und möchte mehr über das Land erfahren. Dank HbbTV kann der TV-Sender dem Zuschauer nun interessante Details zu Frankreich liefern. Durch das Drücken der farbigen Knöpfe der Fernbedienung präsentiert der Sender auf dem TV-Schirm Zusatzinformationen zu Frankreich. Möglich wäre auch, dass auf dem Bildschirm Vorschläge für eine Reise nach Frankreich oder für französische Speisen erscheinen – hochauflösend bebildert und mit zusätzlichen Informationen und Videos angereichert.
Schrittweise Einführung
upc cablecom führt HbbTV ab Januar schrittweise ein. Das bedeutet, dass das Unternehmen einen Sender nach dem anderen in der Deutschschweiz, in der Romandie und dem Tessin mit dem HbbTV-Signal überträgt. Voraussetzung dafür ist, dass ein TV-Sender das HbbTV-Signal anbietet.
