@John: Would not use it that way as you take the risk that the Philips falls over.

I had the chance to check both mount possibilities at my hifi dealer. If you use the wall bracket what has a different angle, panel and soundbar build a plane, homogenous front, what looks nice. However, in your case the stand of the 935+ would only be the B&W soundbar itself which is only 8cm in depth, but the wall bracket is even 7 cm longer. This looks not be very stable.

BTW, the wall bracket is longer for more air space between panel and soundbar so that the sound of the top speakers is not impacted by a too close panel.

DJ Micha, thank you very much for your answer, good to know that you have already thought about this and looked into it.

Will report back as soon as mine arrives which should be in about 10 days time (my choice due to decorating at home) Kind Regards, John.

My new Philips 65” 935+Oled has now arrived over the weekend and even though its only 24 hours old I am totally enjoying this new set, I have not done any form of picture settings or picture calibrations from reviewers as there seems to be none available.
I started off using the “Standard” settings but then moved over to AI settings on both Picture and Sound and so far very impressed watched the original John Wick film last night and one episode of season 3 Discovery, very impressive.

This is my second Philips Oled, the first one was the 65” 903 model which was a great set, but the 935+ is a definite improvement in both sound and vision.
    Regards
    John.

    DJ Micha,

Thanks for sharing your initial settings, I am in the same process, just to many settings to go through at the moment hence that is why I opted for Picture AI/Sound AI just to get started and find it not bad at all. The picture/sound settings for 935+ are going to be different to my Philips 65″ 903 but thats progress I guess, I cannot wait to see how RTL/F1 looks this weekend on UHD as it was not very good on the 903 model.

    Many thanks DJ Micha

I currently face 1 issue with my 935:
    – Image Dynamic: the image lacks “constrat” / “subtleness” / “color details”, basically near black performance is disappointing at the moment. To bring some facts to expose this, for instance on grey scale benchmarks, everything under 15% is pure black, everything above 75% is pure white. Literally 40% of the dynamic is lost… And I can’t find, so far, any combination of settings to solve this.

Here are my latest SDR settings (I tried many combinations)
    – Picture Mode : Film
    – Colour : 42
    – OLED Contrast : 65
    – Sharpness : 0
    – Brightness : 36
    >> Advanced
    >>>> Color
    —— Colour enhancement : Off
    —— Colour Range : Normal
    —— Colour Temp : Warm
    >>>> Contrast
    —— Contrast Mode : Picture
—— Perfect Nat’ Reality : Off
    —— Perfect Contrast : Off
    —— Video Contrast : 68
    —— Light Sensor : Off
    —— Gamma : 0
    >>>> Definition
    —— Ultra Resolution : Off
    >>>> Picture cleaning
    —— Noise reduction : Off
—— MPEG artefact reduc : Off
    >>>> Motion
    —— Motion style : Film
As it is, the image feels under-exposed, but that’s the “best” I manage on my own to preserve details at both end of colour range.

As an overall note, I’m searching for a natural, subtle & precise image. I’m all for the “FilmMaker” initiative. Not a bling-bling, artificially flattering picture.

    DV: Style: HDR Personal
            Colour: 51
            OLED contrast: 90
            Sharpness: 0

            Colour enhancement: N/A
            Colour gamut: N/A

            Colour control (Red): N/A
            Contrast mode: Picture
            PNR: N/A
            HDR Perfect: N/A
            Perfect contrast: N/A

            Light sensor: Off
            Gamma: 0
            Ultra resolution: Off
            Noise reduction: Off
            MPEG artefact reduction: Off
            Motion style: Movie

    Couple of remarks:

  • * For SDR, I use ISF Day so I can use the “Colour control” option. I like the wide colour gamut because of the more saturated colours, but it makes skin tones look unnaturally red. With the Hue, Saturation and Intensity settings I use for the colour Red, skin tones look much more natural and other colours still look good.
    * For SDR, the picture looks more vivid when you set Perfect Natural Reality to Minimum. However, this does not play nice with the Contrast mode set to Optimized for picture, because it somehow changes the colours. This is why I use Optimized for energy savings and set the OLED contrast higher (on 70).
In HDR10 and Dolby Vision (DV) mode, this colour change is not happening, so I used Contrast mode Optimized for picture there.
    * For SDR if you want to reduce colour banding, the Noise reduction and MPEG artefact reduction settings should both be set to Minimum, otherwise the colour banding reduction feature will not work.
    * Lastly, Motion is set to Movie, because this makes for a big reduction in judder, but does not have the Soap Opera Effect.
  • I think it’s a shame that in AI mode you cannot control the colour settings at all. I would love to be able to use the new AI mode for the motion and picture enhancement options, but still be able to control the colours myself.

Unfortunately my 935 is now presenting a screen defect since wednesday (so 5 days after arrival).

Something a bit like that, but limited to a ~10cm vertical band at the left of the panel.

That’s maybe why I was also not able to properly setup its picture.

So now I’m back at my starting point: Philips or Panasonic. The funny thing being I ended buying the 935 for its interesting overall package, but already knowing I’d want to set it up “à la Panasonic” regarding picture quality/rendering. Most of the P5 treatments feel too intrusive to my eyes taste. Paradoxal choice.

For anyone interested I created a dedicated gallery comparing (syntheticly) the findings of Vincent Teoh.

Have to say the Near Black Handling images kind of represent the “low dynamic” issue I posted previously.

Hope that helps! And, if anyone knowledgable has a solution to limit or even overcome that situation, please share :)
